Fifteen Staten Island food pantries were distributed 1,500 pounds of frozen meat to needy families this holiday season by Councilwoman Debi Rose (D-North Shore) Turkish Cultural Center and Embrace Relief on November 17.2015.
The list of sites includes, Staten Island Liberian Community Association, Community Health Action of Staten Island, St. Edward Food Pantry, Our Lady of Good Counsel, FCBC, Project Hospitality, Divine Purpose Christian Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, The Jewish Board, COJO, Christ Church New Brighton etc.
The annual contribution comes as part of observance of Eid Al-Adha, a Muslim festival known as the “Feast of Sacrifice” that was celebrated in September. Islamic custom has observers distribute meat to mark Abraham’s obedience to God while being tested to sacrifice his son.
