Peace Islands, Turkish Cultural Center of Syracuse, and Turkish Student Association at Syracuse University held 10th Annual Friendship Dinner on October, 23rd at Shine Student Center at Syracuse University. The topic of the event was International Refugee Challenge and Social Cohesion presented by Prof. Robert B. Murret, Deputy Director at Syracuse University. Prof Murret noted a broad description of the refugee figures across the world, in general in Middle East. His speech touched upon the countries involved in giving hand in resolving the crisis.
The event started with welcome speech by Murat Kaval, CEO of Peace Islands Institute. Mr. Kaval emphasized the role of civil organizations, including Peace Island Institute, in being a helping hand to refugees around the world. Following the welcome speech, the dinner is served, an opportunity for guests sharing the table to share ideas and know about each other.
The program launched its award winners after the keynote speech by Prof Murret. The winners were Abdul Saboor Sakhizade, IFW New Americans Program, Felicia Castricone, Catholic Charities of Syracuse, and Helen Malina Interfaith Works of CNY- New Americans Program Director, all of whom were recognized by their valuable effort in helping the refugees in Syracuse area. Program ended with a group picture.
