
Turkish and Bosnian Communities in the Capital Region celebrated April 23, the Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day
Turkish and Bosnian children enjoyed the event organized by the Turkish Cultural Center Albany at the Bosnian Community Center on April 30. Program started with poetry and prose readings by the Turkish Cultural Center Albany weekend school students. Students also performed a theatrical play on the acceptance of Turkish National Anthem. All the children at the event rushed to the stage at the end of the play to sing the Anthem along with the audience. Program continued with a musical play titled “When going to Uskudar (a neighborhood in Istanbul)” and a folklore performance from Silifke region.
While children were entertaining with games and receiving gifts at the end of the program, parents enjoyed Turkish tea and appetizers prepared by volunteers.
Lawyer Esra Gules, one of the prominent members of Turkish American community in Capital Region, expressed her feelings by emphasizing the role of Turkish Cultural Center Albany in transferring the national and moral values of the community to the next generation. She indicated that the event reminded her elementary school years in Turkey and she was glad that her daughter also learns the cultural values through these events.
